Taken on a very overcast day. There were 8 in the pride and they were lying up at a waterhole. You can just see the remains of a kill - all the bellies were very full!

P.S has anyone else had difficulties logging in and getting the thumbnails?

    Jeni,

Nice picture, like the look back. We have had recent issues with the web-site, hopefully things have settled down and we are looking to enhance performance.

HI Jenni - like this a lot - perhaps a tad more contrast and might lighten and sharpen the eye's just a tad.
    Techs look good.
    Good show :)

I hate overcast days on safari!!!! When the light is flat like that it makes photography even tougher, as if not already tough enough on safari.
First reaction was that lion is very gray, would like it and BG more red/brown. Anybody - does this have anything to do with the color space we are using? I.e, aRGB, sRGB and such?? I ask because when I opened the image in PS it said it did not have and embedded RGB profile. So I had PS assign it sRGB. And that is what I saved my edit (below) as, so I will compare with original image.
Anyway, also wondered if flipping it would be better. So here is original with a Velvia action applied and flipped. (The PS Velvia action tries to mimic the Fuji Velvia chrome film) -

    Whadaya think?

FWIW, I love to safari in RSA (South Africa). Been every year since 2005, usually to Kruger and camps in Timbavati and Sabi Sand reserves. And I hate it when I get those overcast days in Sep. I'll likely try going in July, I've heard better weather then but perhaps a bit cooler. You have any experience with different times of year in RSA?

    Hi Tom

Anything posted to the web should be converted to sRGB !

btw not sure why you don't like the overcast days, sure beats blearing sun :) Needs a little different processing warming up a bit like you did with the Velvia action, many different ways of doing !!

Good looking lion, like the relaxed pose and stare Looks good Jenni, like the re post !!!

    Agree web should be sRGB.
I don't -love- blazing sun. Much prefer those "golden hours". And any back lit image :)
Wonder why when I save an image from BPN then open it in PS, PS says image "does not have an embedded RGB profile". Yet if I open it "as is" it looks identical to a sRGB image to me. Oh well, another one of those color space/profile puzzles.

Thanks for comments. Have been battling with no direct pictures opened so actually desaturated. Have gone back to "cloudy"white balance.:o

Yes, yes, yes. That's what I like. I always prefer a bit warm rather than a bit cold. Now, you don't like it flipped around, huh ??? Flipped I think puts more emphasis on face rather than his

ps - I PM'd you about RSA but not sure if I know how to do it here on BPN. You get anything??

Jeni - thanks I got your PM reply. Nice to have a country's residents ideas about what to see. And really nice to have something, anything, that has to do with PCs work on the first try!!!!

Re his a**#, I think we tend to look at a photo like we read, left to right. So the left side of a photo is more strong. Particularly that upper left third intersection area. But, hey, if you like as you said "focus" on the guys, ahem, will, lucky husband you have!:D!:D
