    Default Snowy in bright sun

    D3 200f2 + TC17EII (340mm) 1/4000 f/8 -1.7EV ISO 800 Matrix, very bright afternoon light

Still learning matrix metering (about a stop under-exposed with -1.7EV), corrected exposure with custom picture control in NX2, curves for whites detail and color adjustments in PS, NR on background and shadows, light sharpening, significant crop.

Happy that I avoided most shadows on this bif shot as they were very dark given the bright light. Interested in comments about crop (I have a lot of space all around except down).

    Thanks for looking, commenting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hi Michael You did fine with the exposure, this is one example in which manual would be better, if the bg changes the bird would be toast !!!

I avoid shooting with this bright light since it is not possible to come up with a good image. Image wise shooting from the side is not flattering to the bird and it seems to be going away .

HI Michaal - The harsh light is only 1 factor here - I just do not bother with white birds in harsh light - soft light is the key.
As for the pose - best with wings fully up or fully down - as presented is often refereed to as the Pancake pose - like shooting a pancake from the side - not very flattering and shows little of your subject.
    Keep em coming :)

Hi Michael, Al and Lance hit the nail on the head with their critiques. Totally agree with them. I do like the crop though, has plenty of space for the bird to fly into.

    Alfred, Lance, Christopher,

Thanks much for the comments... I wondered if the light was out of range for the whites.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
