Shot this a few months back with James Shadle. A great time was had by all. I cropped out about 30% of the image. After viewing it I liked the intensity of the stare with the big red eye. Image could probably stand a bit of NR in the BR after seeing the preview....

    Dave,

Greetings. I was going to say that it looks a bit over-saturated, but on examination found no color profile attached. In Photoshop with sRGB assigned, the saturation looks fine (but seems a bit dark). Nice color and great eye. Nice detail on the reds/pinks, though the neck is a little soft to my eye.

You might consider posting images with ICC profile attached (check box in PS save for web or usually a similar check box in most save as jpeg controls). It allows the browser to color manage the image in browsers that color manage (Safari & Firefox [w/cm turned on]).

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

    Hi Dave

I like the tight crop and prominent sharp eye, colors look fine and not over as in most of these birds. Always a treat being out in the boat with James !!

Michael at the distance the image was made the dof is minimal, I don't think even stopping down more will make much of a difference !!! If you have an iPhone there is an application for calculating dof, factors in distance, aperture and camera body .. excellent tool !!

    Alfred,

Greetings. Cool. There are a few dof calculator apps ... do you recommend one in particular?

    Thanks much,

Hi Dave. Fantastic red eye against yellow. Spectacular red plumage - but even if it's not over-saturated I had to wonder if toning it down just a bit might allow the viewer to focus more on the eye and less on the feathers. Don't know, just a thought.

Hi Ken, You'll have a great experience with James. Very friendly and most important he can answer your technical questions. He showed me a setting on my camera which helped me hold focus and acquire birds in flight more easily. Let us see some photos when you get back...

Hi Dave - like it just as it is - doesnt need any toning down on my screen - like the eye and ths soft pinks are just gorgeous.
