Captured from a floating hide on a farm near Kruger National Park. I like the low angle and BG colours. Pity the reflection behind the bird though. Baited.

Wonderful capture. I love the action.
Can you share how you set up? I would love to learn to get KF shots. I have seen some near my house.
Thank you.
Thanks Troy. We use a small electric powered boat with a frame and cover it with hessian net and bait them with tilapia/bream taken from the same water system.
Hendri:
Tremendous action here! Excellent timing, pose, shooting angle, exposure. Now if you can just get the bird to turn the fishes head towards you! I think you could burn in the lighter reflection behind the bird, but the action is so good, it takes a while before you even notice it.
Well captured.
Randy
Great timing on this one Hendri. Agree with you about the reflection (what was it by the way?). Apart from that I like the HA and eye contact in this shot.
Fantastic action and love the low angle. Can you tell me more about the floating hide? Is it something that is your sent up or something that you can rent? How about the crocs and the hypos?
Thanks you Randy, Phil and Lorant.
Phil - Its a reflection of something on the water behind the bird but nut sure from exactly what.
Lorant - We used a small boat with an electric motor. Crocs and Hypos - we photograph them as well:) No just joking, non of that in the dam. The dam is on a commercial sugarcane and banana farm.
A very noticeable work Hendri, I totally agree with your selfcritic but this one is a terrific image. Love the fantastic out of focus BG and the terrific sharpness of water drops. The action is to die for, big congratulations :)
Wow this is an incredible capture !! Your timing was superb and the exposure spot on. Excellent detail too. Love it!!
Hey mate, we all dream of these PK exit shots, and you have nailed this. Of course, the angle puts this over the top, and just love the sprayed action. Very well captured.
Thanks Juan, Judy and Stu. I appreciate your kind comments.:)
Lorant if you are interested in aquatic hides I think that you should have a look on this article about how to buil one by portuguese photographer Ricardo Lourenço (http://www.rlfocus.blogspot.com/) and have a look on the website of my friend Juanma Hernández, he is one of the best using thi skind of hides in Spain (http://www.juanmahernandez.es/7.html ; http://juanmahdez.blogspot.com/)
Awesome action shot. Nicely exposed, sharp with good details on the bird and lovely background.
HELLO! My is this wonderful! I will say this is probably my favorite KF image ever posted here! The only thing that sorta surprises me is the lack of comments. Wonderful image!!
Thanks Lorant, Juan, Manhesh and Mike.
Juan - Thanks for the links - some good reading/info and brilliant images.
Superb splashing action with this diving kingfisher! The light, pose and splashes are just perfect with the water not obscuring the bird. I am rather curious about the fish bait. Was the fish placed in some container below water? It will be great if you can share how the fish bait was setup. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks Jay. Yes we put the small fish in a container with water. When we get close to the KF's we throw one in their direction by hand.
Fantastic pose! I would prefer more delicate sharpening and less noise "cleaning". The fact remains that this is absolutely excellent shot!
My congrats too...
Oh YES! This is awesome Hendri! The angle is to die for. Super splash and timing! Cant Wait :)
Thanks for the kind comments Sulasula, Kiran and Mark.
