I took this image in the late afternoon at a local marsh and I really don't know what it is. I think it could be an American Tree Sparrow, but I am not at all sure as something seems strange about his face and of course he was no place near a tree. Any help would be appreciated.
Despite the name, American Tree Sparows often don't occur in trees! However, they have a different facial pattern and a bicolored bill. I agree with Daniel - this bird looks like a molting/ ratty Swamp Sparrow.
Thanks fellows. I sure am poor when it comes to ID-ing these sparrows. They look so much alike. I think they are quit attractive though. Thanks again.
