    Default Gitzo tripod choice

I'm looking at tripod legs to hold the Wimberley, 500/4 and mark IV etc.

I've found the Gitzo 3530S available at Camera Canada but they say it's discontinued and has been replaced with the 3531. The latter is somewhat more expensive. Would there be any downside to going with the 3530S?

    Thanks!

    John,

I use the GT3530LS with a Wimberley II and the 500/4 and it doesn't seem like I'm even scratching the surface of its support capabilities. I'm not sure of the difference between the LS and the S though. Sorry.

    John,

I use the 3530LS too and find it plenty strong and easy to move with the 500MM and Gimbal II head. I think the LS is explained below - could be wrong too.

The Gitzo GT3530LS Long Systematic 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs uses advanced "Carbon 6X" carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger, lighter and as resistant as its 12 layer predecessor. Carbon "6X" is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes.

    John--

The GT3531S replaced the GT3530S about two years ago I think. I believe that the newer model has a "safe-lock" rubberized plate on it and a few other minor improvements.

Keep in mind that the "S" versions, (not the "LS") are shorter tripods. For example, the maximum height of the GT3531S is 50.8" and the GT3530LS is 58.3". That might be an issue for some. We sell the LS versions many times more than the S versions.

The GT3530LS is probably the most popular of the Gitzo Systematic Tripods. And, even though the GT3530LS ends in "0", it is the newest model. Gitzo numbers their tripods by release version, so the GT3530LS is the first model year of that tripod. Here is a link to their code system: Gitzo.

Here is a link to the GT3530LS: link

Gitzo has scheduled a price increase for May 1, and right now there is a $40 rebate on most of the Systematic Tripods.

    Hope this helps!

Many thanks to all. I've decided to go with the taller GT3531LSV. Should work a treat!
