This beautiful bird was photographed in the Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. It was feeding on a river and obviously caught dinner.
1D MK4 with 500 F4 and 1.4X TC. Evaluative metering at ISO 800 and f 7.1 and 1/5000 (I was trying to get flight images that didn't work out). This is a large crop to about 45% of the original image. The BG is the river filled with rain and mud.
I like the pose, eye contact and BG, the food item adds to it. I might crop a bit off the bottom. At this shutter speed you could have gone to ISO 400, even for flight images.
I know that sometimes we get posts of very highly saturated Lilac Breasted Rollers IMHO this goes a little to far the other way, and looks a little to dark.
Good capture by both you and the bird.
Nice light, well exposed bird with good details. I prefer more tighter cropping if possible, as there is lot of dead space around the bird, which competes with the bird for attention.
