    Default Fox Kit Season!

    Attached Images Attached Images

It has been a year since I sent some fun images of red fox kits to BPN. This past weekend, I made my first images of this year's litter of six kits at the same location -- my friend's woodshed! I just set my blind up across the road from the shed and the little guys are oblivious to my presence. Fox kits do four things: scratch, wrestle, sleep, scratch! Also this year I've already made my first image ever of one of the adults at sunrise in the field near the shed. More images on my website.

Boy would I love to pet them but they all bolt under the barn the second they see movement. One of them has a tick under its eye that I so wish I could remove! I suppose it will fall off when it gets big enough or maybe mama will help to remove it at some point. Attached is a shot of the little guy with some rabbit left overs that papa dropped off.

Our mutual friend, Deepa, loves these little guys as well. I wish I could take her out to the farm to see the real thing! She only lives about 30 miles from us.

You hit it right on the nail, Judy. When I'm sitting in my blind watching those kits chase each other, playing steal the rabbit parts, and falling over backwards and down the hill I feel privileged to be there but wish I could take all of my friends to see them. Of course that is impossible because then I'd never get invited to places like this. Oh well, I'll do my best to share with everybody who can't be there. I'll try to send an image of the papa fox tonight. Thanks for the feedback.

P.S. Mike Fuhr and I are going to Grand Isle, Louisiana next week to shoot warblers, etc. We will be on a TNC property on the barrier island. I'm getting pretty excited!!!!!

Wow Danny sounds like an exciting trip and I wish you many many photo ops. Do give my best to Mike. I think of you two often and what fun you must have together enjoying this great world we live in. Look forward to your posts from Grand Isle and thanks Danny for all your input here on BPN. Your posts have been awesome !!!! and most appreciated.

I'm jealous, too! I've only seen one fox in Missouri and that was one who was running across a major highway...not exactly able to stop and get a photograph! These little ones are too cute!
