I shot this cattle egret at the Alligator Farm rookery last year. It was my first year shooting birds with any type of serious intention. The shot has received a lot of positive remarks and also admitted to an online gallery. Having said that, I am sure it could be improved upon next time. For me I feel the crop is a bit tight. Your comments w/a keen eye are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Very nice pose. I would give it a bit more space at the left and it seems to have a yellow color cast. The whites on the chest look a bit overexposed. Keep them coming.

Besides the yellow cast mentioned by Axel, the head angle could be improved. Are you visiting again this year?

Yes. (I go often, its only 35 mins away) How so for the head angle? More toward me?

Excellent....I may very well be able to make that.
I think I resolved the yellow cast and overblown breast issue but can't help the crop as it was the full frame. I went and looked and noticed I had the RAW file still. I used to use the Pentax supplied software back then. LR is much better and I am learning to use it as I go.

Please, keep ALL your RAW files, they are your negatives, and you wouldn't get rid of those, right?

You still had some cast, so I fixed it with Color Balance. Minus Green, Minus Yellow.
A slight curve to make it lighter. Burnt the green a bit with the Burn tool and sharpened.
Ah, I flipped the eye vertically too.

Hope to see you at AF!!!!
