Default What to buy Nikon Lens

I am looking to buy a new long lens. I have a 200-400 f4 and am looking at the 400 f 2.8 with tele-extenders or should I go with the 500 f4. the 400 is available. Help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Definitely a 500! 400f2.8 is good for bragging but not as practical as a 500 and will never be longer than a 500. And if you can afford a 400f2.8, you may as well get the 600f4 (if one is available).

Myer, I got my 500 a couple of months ago and couldn't be more happy with this lens. I also got the new 2x III and mounted on the tripod with the Wemberly, it's a great combination. 1000mm F8
    Hope you enjoy it.

No lens is ever long enough! I recommend the longest you can afford and/or carry over your shoulder mounted on a tripod.
