This scarlet ibis image was captured at Little Estero Lagoon on February 10. Any suggestions on how to handle specular highlights on ibis beaks appreciated! All C & C welcome.

Mike, really nice portrait. I would love to get over to photograph these birds someday. I wish the water/land line didn't run through the bird's head but I would still be happy with this image.

Regarding the specular highlights, the recovery slider might help a bit but I'm guessing it might take some cloning/patching/healing. But I suspect you'll get some really good tips here from some of the folks who are much better at PS than I am.

    Cheers,
    Greg

I like the overall image. BG does not bother me that much.
    Nice work.

    Mike:

Well, I am not a PS expert, but have fiddled a bit with this issue. I did use the recovery slider to tone down the brightness of the sheen and then used the eye dropper to find the color of the bill adjacent to the hot spots, set the brush tool at 20% opacity, and filled in the sheen. My goal wasn't to completely eliminate it, as it tends to wipe out all the detail in the area, too smooth looking, but to just tone it down enough so its not objectionable.

Lots of other ways I am sure.

Beautiful shot with great colors. Repost looks even better. I like the composition and the head turn.

Thanks for all the comments, and a special thanks to Randy. I really like the way you handled the beak highlights on your repost.
