    Default Landing

Initially, I did a portrait crop of this shot, then received advise to do a landscape crop. What do you think?

    Troy:

In this image, because all the attention and action is downward, the bird is looking down, etc., I think a portrait crop would work well. If he was coming in more horizontally, perhaps a landscape would be preferable. If you were to go more portrait mode, I would like to see a bit more of the perch below, if you have it.

    Nicely exposed and sharp.

    Cheers

    Troy:

I prefer the image in pane #3, works better compositionally for me.

Cropping is a very subjective thing, but this one works better in portrait orientation.

    Cheers

Thank you. The first shot has a the flow feel to it.
But portrait focus more on the landing.

    Thank you.

Great timing Troy, and your repost works so much better. Overall nice and sharp. Well captured.

Oh yeah, the portrait crop works much more nicely - very comfortable comp compared to the original post. Too bad the near wing wasn't opened up more to see the beautiful feathers. I do love how the far wing serves as a backdrop to the eagle's face. Tough light gave you a very contrasty image.

Thank you Daniel. Yeah, I wish the near wing would open just a bit more. ;) I need to shoot from a different angle.
