Back in November of 2008, someone broke into my house while I was home and robbed
me at gun point.
As you could probably imagine, I was a mental wreck. I even started selling my
camera gear that this guy tried to steal. Everytime I looked at the gear it reminded
me more of what happened to me and I was hoping it would help me feel better. I
even sold my fave 100-400.
It didn't.
Things were pretty bad for me. I didn't take one photograph of anything in 2009.
Everytime I tried to pick up the camera I couldn't get past that event and the threat
of constantly being told I was going to do die. I even began to wish it had happened.
But after finally getting some help I turned things around (I've even lost 75 pounds)
and went out into the field this past Sunday. It was scary. Actually, I think one of
things I was most worried about is whether or not I still had 'it'.
All I can say is it felt great being outside again. I've already been asked to give two
presentations on my 'Birds Are People Too' and to display my work.
Now I just have to raise some money to get another 100-400 again :D
This truly made my night! Doug, we're so happy you were able to get past that event and move on with your life. We'll be waiting for your new images - we know you've still got "it"...now go raise those funds and buy that lens!
Doug I don't know you but time is healing your wounds. Looking forward to what life around us has to offer will help with difficult past experiences. You are not alone.
Congrats on your great attitude Doug. Good to see your able to dust yourself off and get back to life. you show these usless scum they can't keep a good man down. Looking forward to your new posts. Best wishes
Doug, it is really nice to see you back here. I remember very well when you posted that terrible story. Glad to hear that things are returning to normality in your life. Take your time :-)
I am so happy. That's how life is. Ultimately, the good prevails. I am glad you have again started photography. Just go out into the field. Smell the flowers, the wind, the water, the dew drops....God has given us such beautiful things. Photography or not, just move into the field and start experiencing it once again.
