Great exposure and pose, but I would have liked it a whole lot better if there were more DOF.
The wing tips don't look like motion blur, but more like they were out of the plane of focus.
Was the f 4.5 intentional?
I likely would have shot this at 640 or 800 with the D300 just to get more DOF and SS.

great pose, details and wing position, excellent exposure. A bit tight on the top.

Great image. I think the sharpness is remarkable. The wing primaries being OOF is very immaterial because the rest of the bird & the focal point is so well focused. I agree that it is a bit tight at the top, but still a great capture.
shot at 4.5 to capture speed with good whites
On of the best Osprey shots seen in a while. Amazing detail.
I agree that 4.5 will get you good speed, especially at ISO 400.
Don't see that it has anything to do with the whites...perhaps a bit cleaner sky as a background.
Overall, to me anyway, with a wing spread that spectacular, I'd prefer to see as much of everything possible within the plane of focus...but I guess that's why we all "see" and work differently :)
Thanks for the follow up to my question.
A fantastic flight shot of this Osprey. Great exposure and details in the white feathers. I might add a bit of canvas at the top.
Markus
the pose and focus on the head with the wing blurr make this work so well...
This is one terrific image

Great lighting and detail. I might add a little canvas to the top to give the bird a little more room.
