This is a common bird in New Brunswick and indeed in North America as a whole- the Common Grackle, Quiscalus quiscula. The species occurs in several forms including interior, coastal and Florida versions (see Sibley). This is the coastal form, which although showing lots of bronze on the body, has a more mutlicoloured back and wings than the bronzed interior form.
I followed this bird down into the cattails where it disappeared. When I looked up it had flown and perched on a small branch with what I think is a nice BG of distant trees, still with no leaves.
I cropped and sharpened.
