I like the position and composition. Underwing detail good as well. To me the image is too high contrast, there is a sharpening halo, and the head is a bit soft. Whites are blown on the head, which is hard to avoid if you get the dark exposure correct. Could see if recovery sliders in ACR help. It is hard to get exposure right with ospreys in contrast light, and overcast or cloudy skies help. regards~Bill
Agree with comments Bob !! Would add to have a little more room since it feels tight in frame, particularly top !
Sharpening wise I don't think it will do a lot of good if the base image is not sharp. The AF point locked on the wing and that area is very sharp. Don't think you could have done much here, very difficult positioning the point in the eye area ... even on the slowest of birds !!!
Hi Bob, as is there're some blown highlights in the neck and shoulder areas. I find that a problem that many of use could run into easily when photographing ospreys on bright sunny day. But I also find that the details there could be recoverable. But that also depends on the camera you use and the degree of over-exposure of the white areas. I do think a bit more sharpening on the eyes would help. You never know what Photoshop could do these days ;). Wing position, head angle and eye contact are fine. As for the composition, I agree with Al that a bit more room could help.
