    Default Extreme 3rd Party Result

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Nikon D700
    Sigma 300-800mm F5.6 Zoom
    Kenko Pro 300 DGX 2X
    Gitzo Tripod with Mongoose 3.5A

    ISO 800
    1/640 F22

    800mm x 2 = 1600mm

This was past the time I normally photograph birds, but I was experimenting (AKA goofing around) with the combo and hung in longer than normal.
I was pleased with the results. I've seen sharper - but IMO, not too bad for a 800mm 3rd party zoom lens and a 3rd party 2X.

Very good technique for all that FL. Looks sharp to me, I have read that the Kenko TC's (Pro Series) produce reasonable results. This images is much more than reasonable, looks great!

Sigma is a good supplier as well, you did well with the combination. Just goes to show how important technique, exposure and training are - well done James.

Hi James - the sigmonster can produce excellent results with a 2X converter - technique has to be beyond question - which yours obviously is!!!!
Love the result - Just excellent. IMHO

I dont think to many people would complain about that !

I would love to have the sigmamonster, hopefully they come out with an OS version of it and the 500mm !

    Captain James
It's not that you had to show us anything to prove your prowess . . . but you've proved it anyway. Your technique is truly flawless. Beautiful photography at 1600mm equivalent! Wow! Wow! Did I say "Wow!"?

Impressive Quality. I hope Sigma will update that lens with a faster AF and OS. Then it will be an absolute killer lens.
I also hope they will come up with an 4/200-500 OS. The 2.8/200-500 is pretty pointless IMHO. A 4/200-500 OS will put some pressure on Canon and Nikon to come up with something similar.

Results looks pretty good james! That's interesting with a kenko.

The Sigma 3-8 is sharp even with stacked 2X and 1.4X T/Cs. The only limit I found was keeping the rig steady without any VR or IS. I had to use super high shutter speeds since any slight breeze shows up.
