Default RW Blackbird (Common bird project)

Here is my submission for the Common Bird project. I exposed this so that no blacks were blocked. The bird was in bright sunshine and the result was one I am not sure about. In post, I brought the blacks down a touch, but still unsure of it. Would appreciate others thoughts on that. This was full frame with the 600Vr and the 1.7tc. I removed a small twig and added a touch of canvas at the side.

    D300s, 600VR, 1.7tc, f/7.1, ISO 400, 1/250th SS, +.7EV compensation

Seems to have a very slight silver-blue tint to the feathers but looks pretty natural to me.

I like the pose and the position, looks way sharp and the exposure is good considering the bright light. These types of birds look much better in diffused to overcast light. Good job.

Cropped a little tight for me but that is a personal pref.

Jason I like the pose and head angle although I would have preferred a touch more head room.

A little tight on tip as mentioned, I may put some black back to it.

Thanks for participating in the project :)

Jason, its a pity he is not showing off the reds. I also agree with others on crop. Since the bird has tilted his head, more room on top will definitely make it better. Loved the DOF and the BG. Strong diagonal comp as well.

Great background and great exposure for the given light. I like the head angle.

Nice and sharp, and I like the HA. IMO the plumage looks way too blue...desaturating the blue and cyan channels would really help the look of the image. The comp is rather tight, especially above. Really neat BG!
