Lots of folks like pink... :) I went down to the lake this morning to try and create some images at 1/8 second or slower for the current Out-of-the-Box Weekly Theme :) but could not resist making a few sharp ones :)

This image was created with the Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens with the 1.4X II TC (handheld at 169mm) with the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1/3 stop: 1/200 sec. at f/14. (I was going for some extra d-o-f.)

Thanks Harold. I think that I am gonna agree with you. And as the image in pane 2 shows, I had a bit more room at the bottom. Thanks! :)

Beautiful setting and good-looking youngster. Another vote for more room at the bottom for the 'virtual legs/feet'.

    Great image and comments above.
I like the warmer colors of the little one
standing out in the perfect pink. Very nice.

    Artie,

I'd be interested to know why you selected the focus point landing on the birds body rather than the one on the eye/head?

Lovely photo by the way :-)!

I like the vertical element of the bird among the horizontal layers of the flowers. I personally find the sharpness of the FG plants a little overpowering.

More to focus on and I do not hold the lens as steady as I used to....

The first post looks good and the repost looks great. It is hard to tell sometimes why that little more at the bottom seems to balance the picture composition perfectly.
Love the picture Artie. It reminds me to a place where I go in May to see the prairie smoke in bloom and the Upland Sandpipers roam.

Lovely image Artie. I do prefer the re-post with the full canvas on the bottom particularly for this long-legged species. I've only seen Sandhills from a great distance and certainly never one of the colts.

Artie, very pleasing comp. Loved the pattern in the BG and the placement of the bird. Simple and elegant. A signature image. Way to go.

Good choice of aperture. With scene's like this, we want to see all the surrounding flowers in focus, as you have achieved. Lovely setting Artie.

Very nice image Artie I the find the layers pink thru out the frame strong enough to stand alone then you ad the crane and image really shines.

It's all been said. I like the off center sensor approach and the body target with a narrow aperture. Saw something like this in your last Bulletin and started to move off center - big improvement. Fantastic habitat and nice work leveraging the flowers of spring - love the picture.
