As you might guess, at the time I took the picture I did not notice there were bands on both legs . None of the other gulls I photographed that day were banded. The image has been cropped and tweaked in Lightroom and Elements. I also removed some seaweed near its beak and towards its tail.

either my eyes are playing tricks on me or there is something weird going on in front of the neck. i just cant tell. wendell, it looks like you ran some NR and left it over the bird? does seem soft as bob mentioned. head angle seems a little off too. i love the exp you chose. bird looks to be in good light.

i might report the bird to the authorities. they like getting the info!!!!

Bob: "Flat and soft" was all I thought I could do with what I had. The neck area was pretty definitely blown.
Harold: I believe the "front of the neck" shows as I found it; I agree it looks a bit "weird." Don't know what happened . . . i did try to be very careful about selecting the background only for NR (one of my nemesis). But I agree the bird is "soft."
Lance: Here is a re-post -- of the original image.

My decision to post this was chosen primarily because of the presence of two bands. But that is no excuse for sloppy PP.

    Thanks, Guys, for your C &C!! I'm learning a lot -- I hope!!!

Harold: Now i see the "neck problem" you spoke of. Don't know how I missed it -- one too many sips of wine, I guess.

Hi Wendell I have missed much worse, when you concentrate on one part of the image lots of things are not noticeable !!!

Don't mind the bands, just wish the bird had a better head angle, when its just off by a little becomes more prominent !! With these guys I would just wait and keep after them to get a keeper out of the camera !!!

Hi Wendell - agree with AL - trying to get as close as possible in camera is always a good idea - original just needs a little selective sharpening - the whites toning down a bit in some spots.
    Looking forward to the doozy!!!
