Mule Deer

I used a somewhat sideways/diagonal camera shake for this. The blue background is snow in deep shade. Canon 40D, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS, 1.4x, 1/8, f32, ISO 200. We have a herd of Mule Deer that roam our mountain neighborhood and sometimes hang out near the roads. I sat in the car to not frighten the deer, but then my angle to photograph was limited.

Nancy, I love the blur effect on the Mule Deer. The blue color in the BG is very pleasing. I might be tempted to eliminate the dark area on the right. You are lucky to have so much wildlife so close to home. I bet you are excited about your up coming trip!!!:)

Agree on cropping out the dark tree (or whatever) on the right. I like the blur effect, wish I could see a little more of the neck and the eye.

Yes, the local wildlife are indeed a plus to living at 8,000 ft! I played with trying to remove both the dark tree to the right and the uppper light brown area to the left of the ear but I was not successful in keeping the blurred look natural. Maybe someone has some good technique tips. And I am very excited about my upcoming Africa trip - we leave Saturday!

Not crazy about blurs of still animals, always feel like I want to see more. Lovely color palette.

Nancy, I just brought this into photoshop and added a duplicate layer on top and moved it over then w/ a layer mask removed the BG area that was not pleasing. Then I duplicated the layer again and added canvas to the BG layer on the opposite side that I actually wanted the canvas to be added and then moved the top layer in place and again masked out the unwanted parts. I did a quicky and you could do a better job w/ the clean-up but I wanted to give you an idea. Have a great time on your trip! Get loads of images to share:)

A pretty neat image of a deer. For me it is definitley abstracty. I like it.
Repost really places attention on deer a lot more.

I like the orig and the repost and the extreme blur. With luck, the back of the head and neck would have been a bit more defined. Congrats for really stepping out of the box.
