    Default Head screwed on backwards?

    D90; 80-400 VR @ 400mm. ISO 800. f/7.1 @ 1/500s. HH, braced on ledge in blind.

I always think of owls with their heads turned around to the back, but never really noticed that Chickadees do it too. I know light was too the side (I tried to even it out a bit with some burning and dodging), and perch doesn't fit the bird; but I like the expression on this fellow. C&C appreciated.

One nice thing about side-lighting is that it really brings out feather detail. Nice sharp image with a lot of detail. A slight CC rotation might be advised. Placement in frame is appealing to me... perhaps a tad tight on the bottom.

Good points by Bob and agree !!!

I like the extra room on the right (compared to left) might want to keep the ratio but crop from both sides to have the bird larger in frame !! ... will enhance the screw backwards issue :)

Hi Bill - agree with points by Bob and AL, Like the pose - exposure looks good.
Bit more space on the bottom for my tastes.
    Keep em coming :)

Bill- Birds have special neck vertebrae and lots of them to compensate for a rather stiff back, needed for flying. These special vertebrae in the neck (referred to as heterocoelous) allow this amount of rotation.

Thanks Bob, Bob, Al and Lance. I didn't bother to repost, but I've edited the masterfile to rotate slightly CC and add a bit of canvas to the bottom; it does help the image. I appreciate the suggestions.

Does look a litle strange with the head rotated...
    Nice detail, lighting and pose.
