I took the heads of these Violas and put them in a bowl of water. I froze them to photograph them. I saw this technique at Nanpa during a program given by Darrell Gulin. He freezes the flowers in a shallow bowl filled w/water then rubs his hand over the top to melt the ice and reveal the flowers. I did not get a successful image, but I did learn a lot in the process. I did take this blur shot of the Violas before freezing them and was happy with the results.

To see some of Darrell's work here is a link to his web-site.

I like that the flowers are recognisable, denise. The placement of the colors makes a very good compo. Love the blur too:)

    Very intersting technigue Denise.
A very nice interplay of flowers and colours and it makes me want to see farther into it.
    Very nicely done.

Denise, I love this. I love the interplay of light and dark and the texture and pattern that the black and yellow provides. Very nice!

Like the dark purples in the center, with the whites around. The blur is soft and pleasing. Will check out that link, Thanks D.

How interesting! I love the image but also love the explanation of freezing the flowers. So many things to try and not enough time to try them. I need a clone who can go to work for me so I can play all day. :D

Lovely colors! For some reason, looking at this image made me dizzy. :)

I agree with Jules - not enough hours in the day. I see something that looks so interesting and this is absolutely
gorgeous and there are so many techniques to try I forget what to do:) Denise, I love the blur, the centers of the lighter flowers and the placement of the flowers - it's such a beautiful composition. I went to a short seminar Darrell did in St. Augustine but was just starting out and didn't really appreciate what he was saying.
    I do now:D
