Hi,
My name is Marylynne and I joined today. I shoot mostly landscapes and macro, but I dabble in birds. Of course, since I only dabble in it, I don't do very well with it. I have enormous respect for all of you avid avian shooters...boy, does it take patience, practice, and skill!!.
I do some perched and feeder shots in Central Oregon near Prineville where we have a little piece of property (we get mountain bluebirds, mountain chickadees, flycatchers, quail, and kestrels). I have made a few trips to Summer Lake and Klamath Basin and love seeing eagles and egrets, but they frequently reveal how shabby my bird photography skills are. I mean, if I can't get good shots there....
Around my regular home in Portland, I like waiting for things to find me in the back yard, saying hi to the Bald Eagles on Government Island almost daily as I cross the Glenn Jackson Bridge on my way to work, and stalking around other spots in the area. I haven't made many trips to Ridgefield, but it's always on my list. Like I said, I'm more likely to be doing landscape and macro, so I spend more time gazing at waterfalls and crawling around my yard on my stomach :D
I participate on a couple of forums (NEM's place mostly and I recently joined NPN and the PNW regional forum there). Since I recently bought a 7D, I figured this would be another good place to work on my bird photography and get (and occasionally give, if I feel I can) some advice on my new camera.
I see a few folks whose work I used to see at PhotoCamel and other sites in the past (KimR and Brad). I'm looking forward to seeing your great work again.
Marylynne, welcome! Please don't feel like critiquing is any big deal - just start with what you like or don't so much like about an image, read and learn and you'll be in the mix in no time!
