Shot this with my first proper outing with the D3. 300 VR 2.8. ISO 320. 1/1600 F2.8. (camera was in AF-C and instant shoot mode. (AV & widest aperture), ... you know, when something crops up and you need to grab it).

There is something, perhaps an out of focus tree at about 1/3 position from the left. It distracts attention. The brightly lit wing with mostly blown highlights reveals little feather details and shifts the gaze away from the eyes. However, the background is kind of uniform and gives the picture a moody look. Despite the nits, for me this picture works.
Hi David Not why not crank up the ISO !!!! The D3 produces incredibly clean images Stopping down would have helped
Difficult lighting situation which you handled well Would work on the body to lighten and tighten the crop just a little The bg should be smooth out with some blurring Excellent image !!!!!
Love the AF form the D3 Have you tried the 51 Point 3D Color tracking?
I like it very much as presented. The blurred back lit wings add a lot to the image to my taste.
It makes me think of angels. Only wish the right eye was more visible.
Background is OK with me, not enough to distract and a variation from a solid gray. Congratulations!
Hi Alfred. (51 point 3D tracking..... not tried yet. That fun is to come. Sure is a fine camera, but haven't shaken the old keep the ISO down feeling yet... old habits die hard, but at least this does appear the tool to break that habit.). cheers. Dave
