I want to use a fill flash when shooting from the hide and I can't use Nikon's wireless system because it is based on infrared transmission. I need to place the flash near the perch, so I can set the correct angle of light. The alternative is to use a long sync cable or a radio controlled wireless transmitter. The problem is that I don't know if the sync speed will be sufficient to use the flash as fill light.I think that the High speed sync of Nikon's system wil not work via cable sync, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with radio controlled wireless, so I'm stuck with the limit of 1/320s sync for cable and 1/200s or 1/250s on wireless trigger (the cheap ones, not the expensive models from Pocket Wizard). I'm thinking of using the flash in manual mode with low power, and the transmitter only as a trigger, but I'm not sure if this will work...
Please let me know if this is ok, or if you have other solutions for this.
Thank you very much!
Desmond, I don't understand what are you trying to say...I am well aware of the capability of Nikon's CLS flash system. The problem is it is working with infrared transmission not radio...When shooting from a hide, only the tip of the lens is reaching out.Neither the camera flash or a infrared transmitter can reach out to command the outside placed flash.I need a sync cable or a radio transmitter and receiver to trigger that flash. My question was about the use of the manual mode on the flash, and if this will work correct as fill light without having the possibility to sync the shutter speed with the flash...
You can sync the flash via PC cord or hot/cold shoe attachment up to the normal sync of the camera, typically 1/250. The flash will work in manual mode as fill, balanced, or main light depending on the output you select relative to the ambient light. After determing the ambient exposure...set the flash in manual mode to 1/2 the distance of the flash to subject for -2 fill flash.
FYI- you can order custom flash cords from Paramount in both TTL and Manual configurations http://www.paramountcords.com/
