    Default Love Me!

Hello everyone. This is first image I have uploaded. Shot at Saint Augustine Alligator Farm this past weekend. My second year photographing birds. Any comments for improvement are most welcome. Were I to critique myself I would have wanted less dof behind the egret but w/my lens I would have sacrificed sharpness. (Working on an upgrade!)

    Pentax K10D
    Sigma 50-500mm
    310mm, No crop
    ISO 200
    Av f/10 1/800th
    -7/10 EV
Shot RAW and converted in LR

Welcome Paul. Nice pose. Catching one of these birds lower to the ground would be awesome to eliminate the high upward angle. You can also post much larger images to help folks see the details better for more substantive comments.

    Thank you, Manos.
Thanks, Jim. Good point about the viewing angle. I have posted a larger version.

Too large, too large. Hope I didn't give you the wrong idea. we're limited to 800 pixels on the longest side.

Now that the size thing is out of the way. I really like the bird in this image. At the larger size, the BG is less (but still too) distracting. It would have been sweet to get a little better angle on the head too so that the eye would be more prominent.

Love the mating dress in this image Paul The feathers are so beautiful and you did a fine job capturing them with good exposure. Jim mentioned the steep angle and the size. I would like to see just a little more room in the image if you have the extra canvas. Thanks for sharing Paul.

    Hi Paul.
Great to see you over here on BPN forums.
As usual the detail in the egrets wing feathers is excellent.
    Couple of small suggestions.
It would be good to see the feet if possible and if you had the camera on high speed continuous you might have caught the head fractionally more towards you.
    Cheers: Ian Mc

I got it Jim! I am posting from flickr so the sizing seems limited. Maybe I can try from pbase.

Thanks Judy for your observations. I agree. (The images on your site are exceptional btw)

Thanks, Ian. Good to see you! I saw the link when reading some information on birds-as-art and thought I would come take a look. I think (looking around) that I will learn more here than anywhere else in this quest for perfection!
