    Default Cattle Egret at Arties

    Attached Images Attached Images

Went out Saturday Morning with Artie at the lake down the street from his house, Thanks Artie!

I was shooting with my little 500VR +1.4 X and a full frame camera and 3 or 4 Cattle Egrets came in right in front of us. Could not have been easier for me, but since artie was double my focal length, he was with his 800 and 1.4 on his MKIV, he didn't even try.

Camera Model: NIKON D700 and 500Vr with 1.4X, 1/1250 sec @5.6, Manual mode, on Blubb, ISO: 250, 51 point 3D AF.

Curves and cropped top and bottom only.

Does anyone know the flower Sp? its it a Blue Skullcap? They are blooming right now all over FL.
    Thanks for looking.

Lovely photo Robert. Habitat/flowers/bg really put it over the top.

I really like the timing on the landing pose.

Whites look a bit bright on my laptop monitor.

Certainly nothing wrong with your little 500 and good for you.

Great image here. The colors of the flowers compliment the bird and background very nicely. The incoming pose is fantastic and the exposure looks spot on.

I like this one a lot, the BG including the flowers makes it for me, very beautiful, and you had the best equipment for the job, great IQ. Well done. Tech wise very good although I would crank up to ISO to 400 for more SS.

    Thanks for looking Arash.

Thankfully 1200 was enough for this situation since I dont see any blur. You are right, looking back 1600 or 2000 would have been preferred. Usually I dont pay attention to ISO. I just expose and shoot. Thankfully my Nikon gives me great IQ up to ISO 2000 or so.

Love the approaching pose, dangling feet and those beautiful flowers. I like that the wings are just above the flowers in the OOF BG. Whites look a little bright on my monitor, too, although the sharp shadow on the leading edges of the wings says you had lots of bright early morning illumination.

    Thanks for the comments.

Dont know what to say about the brightness, looks light light grey to me. My monitor is calibrated and I can easily see each square on the cal strip at the bottom of the page.
Actually I have Cal strip that I use sometimes that shows 251-252-253-254-255 and I can see each one clearly. The bird's whites looks like 240-248 in a visual comparison.

Just opened it in P to check the levels. I was wrong! I get 220-230-240 over much of the wing areas and body. Some tiny areas are 250 but we are talking a couple pixels in area.

After checking I would say to check your calibration if the image looks bright.

IT's nice to see you posting, Robert. Love everything about this capture. Whites looks white and good to me. The wildflowers really kick this picture up a notch or two.

Way wicked Robert. As I have been saying lately, I cannot compete with the young, the quick and the strong when it comes to capturing action. Plus, I could not even think of lifting the 800! The whites look bright as expected but certainly not toasted.

The bird is certainly fine, but those layers of flowers make this one memorable.

Well timed to get the full wingspread, and the colourful layered BG just shouts outstanding. The egret is nice and sharp too.

Lovely light, wingspread pose and beautiful environment! Exposure of the whites looks perfect to me. Do you get any other lovely birds in that environment? Would love to see more if there are!

Much like the image Artie presented on the Sandhill Crane and chicks, the flowers really do a wonderful job of creating a beatiful foreground and background to this image.

Pose is excellent and the whites look a tad bright but not fried...pretty much as I'd expect them to look.

The transition from green to violet to the yellows of the Background grass are really nice Robert.

For this image, I see no reason at all for increasing the ISO.... :) The bird is razor sharp, there is enough d-o-f to cover the bird, and I would not want the BKGR flowers any sharper....

Lovely posture Robert, exquisite light. Great sharpness, especially for "only" 1/1250.

Robert, this is quite beautiful. very painterly. Like everyone else has said, flowers take this over the top. Excellent cropping which can be tricky in such shots.

Robert this is so sweetly gorgeous! I would definitely work the scene some more if there is still opportunity. The whites are off but I don't think it has anything to do with the hotness of them, but more with the lack of contrast showing any detail definition on the feathers. It seems as if the bird is all one tone of white so it looks washed--but it's not burnt that's for sure. At least that's what I'm seeing here. Beautiful work! Refreshing!

Thanks for checking Robert and I will check my monitor.
Nothing looked blown out, just bright.

It is always good to see photos posted by people who make a living off photography.
It certainly helps me with a better understanding of presentation of photos among other things.

    Lovely photo.
