    Hi Everyone,
It's been a mad house here for the last couple of days with the Surf Scoters going after the fish row from recent herring run. This particular raft contained at least 5000+ birds. Kind of reminded me of the fall when the snow geese come back. These birds are all feeding up on their way to the breeding grounds in the Arctic and Alaska.

    Stats: Canon 50D, 500mm F/4 with 1.4X, ISO 800, 1/500 sec at F/9, +.3 EC, Distance to subjects 83 feet.

Thanks in advance for you comments,

    Steve

I think more birds in the frame would better convey the feeling of the feeding freenzy and the great number of birds. Perhaps a wide angle lens???

    Hey Joe,
Thanks for your comment. Do you mean something more like this? I had to reduce the quality quite a bit from the original in order to meet the size restrictions but here it is.

Interesting about such a large gathering. There certainly seem to be lots of birds starting on the way through.
I prefer the second. It gives a better idea of the large group.
It looks like agood candidate for a puzzle.
    Nicely done

Steve, I think your repost is better in terms of IQ and composition. It really conveys more of the massing that you described.
