Hi guys, Making a slow start back to photography!:)
I tried one of Greg du Toit's techniques here and hopefully you will like it.
Slow shutter speed to get the blurred movement but sharp (?) eyes.
I have burnt slightly in front of the leading lioness and selectively sharpened.
Focal length: 144mm
F4
SS 1/4 sec
Flash - yes but with diffuser
Well done Jeni, nice to see you posting. If I had one small wish it would be not to have the grasses intersecting w/ the chin in the front lion, but otherwise really good technique.
Hi Jeni Looks like your going to come up with something special !!!
I like the technique of slow shutter speed combined with flash, the flash will help out with some sharpening, would set it to rear curtain. Shutter speed wise remember it will vary with distance, angle of angle of movement and speed.... don't get stuck on 1/4 second At times could go lots higher or even lower !!!
Love the image and just that rear lion would have been incredible, do like it as presented, agree with Jackie on the grass but not much you could have done about it !!! Big Congrats !!
Thanks Jackie, Michael and Al, appreciate the comments.
Jackie have attached another edit with the grass cloned out - better?
Michael, nope - they were in the wild and I was on the seat closest to them; choices I had - keep shooting or devise a porta-potti!!!;)
Hi Jeni, First off I think it's great that your experimenting with other techniques. Al's comments are educational and I definately learned something. I like what you did but would have wished for areas of the grass not to be present...This can be subjective!!
Hi Jennni - like were you are heading - whilst I do like this - technique looks interesting and agree with AL - something special could be in the wings. Just cant put my finger on it - this is so close but just doesnt come together for me (HEY I have weird tastes) - dont know if its the grass or what.
Hi Jeni...intersting technique but not quite to my taste. The rear lion looks great to me but the front lion just seems to be too abruptly cut off by blackness. IMHO
