    Another grackle, I like the head angle but the branch he is sitting on is annoying. More curious as to the sharpening, any ideas on separating from the background to sharpen the grackle?

    40d with 70-300, @300mm
    ISO640, 1/800 @ f 5.6
    eval metering

    Simply select the bird and nothing else to apply the sharpening :)

    Or, sharpen everything and then use the mask to cover everything else other than the bird.

    Hi Russell- check out the educational resources forum for articles on sharpening - Arties Digital Basics and "Art of bird Photography II" for other great info.
    Does look a little soft and lacking fine detail on my screen. BG is quite busy but does show the habitat.

    Hi Russell, Agree with Lance and add that backrounds in bird photography are very important. I know environmental shots are difficult but the good ones show the environment but do not overwhelm the center of interest. It's also important for the bird to be as sharp as possible...especially the eye...
    This bird was shot at a good body angle with most of the subject on an even plane. This would of enabled you to maximize sharpness on the subject...

    Hi Russell Great suggestions and got one more .... move the bird !! They are easy to maneuver with the proper motivation :)
