Here is the launch website for April 12: http://cs5launch.adobe.com/
The software should be available sometime in May. It will be 64bit for the Mac platform as well and will support more than 4GB memory.

What I haven't figured out yet is how many processor cores are supported in this version.
I need to buy photoshop for a new machine now (next week in fact). If I do, is there a way to get a reduced price on an upgrade when CS5 comes out since it is so close?
Roger
I'm sure there is Roger and I would call Adobe, they have been reasonable in all my dealings.
According to Tim Grey this morning, it will be available on 4/12.
"Tim's Answer:
This is a relatively timely question, though I received it about a week ago and have been holding on to it for the right time. Which is now.
Adobe has announced they will launch Photoshop CS5 on April 12th, as noted above. This is actually a little earlier than might otherwise be expected, considering the typical 18-month release cycle. Details of new features or changes are still embargoed under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), so I wouldn't take any "announcements" of new features you see too seriously until Adobe makes the official announcement on April 12th.
The Spring 2010 issue of Digital Darkroom Quarterly will be delayed just a couple of weeks so it can include detailed information on how to put the new features in Photoshop CS5 to best use. If you're not already a subscriber you can sign up through my online store.
If you'd like to attend the live Adobe broadcast announcing Photoshop CS5 and the rest of the Creative Suite, you can register here:

Thanks for the update Axel.
Has anyone seen this too. Any idea on costs?

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
This information is from Jeff Schewe in a post on The Luminous Landscape:
"However, AFTER April 12th, if you buy Photoshop CS4, you will get a free upgrade to CS5 (for the cost of shipping) and since Adobe has limited the backwards version upgrade to 3 versions, people who are currently using Photoshop CS will seriously want to upgrade to SC4 once the announce happens but BEFORE CS5 actually ships. Once CS5 actually ships, only Photoshop CS2 will be eligible for upgrade pricing..."
I've been paying something like $169 for each upgrade....
