Taken while out at the local bird sanctuary a few days ago. 50D, 500mm at f/4, 1/400, ISO400, EC+1.
From all the honking going on, it would seem only a few weeks until the little ones show up.

Lovely portrait, the composition seems spot on, great feather detail. The green areas in the bg may be a tad distracting, not sure.
    Congrats

Beautiful detail and I agree with Gail and think the composition is excellent.

I am only a novice myself but this looks very good to me. The head detail in both the black and white is superb and I like both pose and compo. The only slight negative I can see is the green patch to the left of the head with seems to draw my attention each time I look at the shot - this is very minor though and certainly does not spoil a lovely image.

    Excellent exposure and sharpness.

reds look as though they need some black added to them since the body feathers seem a bit washed out.

Dave, good exposure on the blacks, and I like the overall detail and sharpness. Although you are showing the colours and detail of the wing, I would have maybe moved him back to the right, and left more space on the left to look into.
