I created this while experimenting with some of the Photoshop filters: Filter/Distort/Diffuse Glow plus some tweaking. And I made an interesting discovery along the way: once you open the filter dialogue box you can simply click on the various stylized pre-sets to check out the various looks until you see something that catches your eye. I will post the original image in the Pane below.

The original White Tern head portrait was created on Midway Atoll with the handheld Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens (handheld at 215 mm) with a 25mm tube mounted on the lens and the 1.4X II TC mounted on the lens with the EOS-1D Mark IV. With the TC on the lens you are able to AF. Reverse the order and you can get closer but you will need to focus manually :) ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/125 sec. at f/7.1. Fill flash at -1 stop.

Artie, I love to see you experimenting. Very nice effect. The glow adds a nice amount of softening to the image. I love the original ALOT! The beautiful blue tones of the beak are special. Very nice pose and BG.:)

Artie, Love the pose and eye. Nice soft effect, though I might prefer a little more detail in the whites. Very nice original too.
