    He turned his head nicely for you Don, and well done on the whites in the afternoon light. The vertical works well, although I would maybe take a tad off the left.

    Perfect light angle for this kind of image. not to mention, the perfect head position. You must have been really close to this guy. Very nice pose and comp.

    Getting the bird off the center will improve compo. You have no light on the feet, a little fill flash would have come handy.

    Don:

    As Fabs pointed out, fill would have helped with the feet, and tamed some of the dark shadows as well.
    Was there some hanging foliage right behind the bird ( RUC) ?

    Don,
    You can see the shadow line on the stick, so you could do a very feathered selection and brighten the lower part of the bird and feet. The out-of-focus twigs in the background at the end of the beak are a little distracting. You could blur those a little. Those two corrections would make a very nice image in my opinion.
