This guy was perched on a light on a large piling at the local ferry dock. He gave me some oppurtunity to work on capturing details in dark colors.
Sony A700, 70-400G @400mm, f6.3, 1/1600, iso 1000, ec +2.0, sunny, HH leaning on a railing. PP in PSE8, s/h adjustment, slight color and contrast boost, usm, darkened and saturated the sky, 95% of FF.
I did extra work on the eye and bill, like the bill, not sure about the eye.

Hi pete...Love the wing detail. My first impression was the eye was oversharpened...but I am not sure!

Peter, great composition, this is not an easy bird to get close to. Nice job with the +2 to compensate for bright sky BG. Exposure techs are solid maybe a tad more canvas on sides IMO - well done.

    Thanks everyone for the coments.
Wish I had held off on the last round of sharpening the eye!
    I'm getting there...
