    Default American kestrel

Didn't really notice the settings until after the photo as i could have used a higher shutter speed and bump up the iso. Cropped about 50% some sharpening applied to the bird

Hi Peter, looks like you did well with the shutter speed, seems very sharp to me. I think it could maybe use a bit more exposure. The lighting and detail are very nice. The DOF seems good also. The photo does a good job of showing the detail of the back and head of the kestrel, nice image.

Thanks, it works, but I think having a faster shutter speed would have helped just a bit. I was mostly pleased with the pose and how visible the bird was.

Was it that soft before the sharpening?

I like your compo very much nice placement in the frame. Angle a little steep but you them when you can. I do find the head a bit soft. ISO 100 IMO is a waste of real state for birds. If you were hand holding, the extra s/s could have made the difference. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Kurtis, the head of the bird was the softest spot, much softer than what it is now, the back and wings were fairly sharp

Fabs, Thanks for the feedback, I wish i would have checked what the settings on the camera were before i took the shot, I was just too excited haha.
