This species live in one of the local parks. They dont travel very far, locals feed them constantly throughout the day.

Any ideas on what it actually is?

Muscovy Duck, native to Central and South America and spreading into Mexico. Has been domesticated and is now found in many areas of North America as well.

Wild Muscovies are actually slightly less ugly than the domesticated variety. Wild ones do occur with some regularity along the Rio Grande in S. Texas. They aren't as inclined to walk up you and beg for crackers and bread, though.

I saw my first muscovy last year and was as confused by it as you were! They are quite something to see in person, aren't they? :D:eek::D
