    Default 4 on the beach

I don't venture into mammals often but here's a seasonal shot. This time of year the beaches are't to crowded yet the inhabitants (harbor seals) all picked the same, rocky spot.

BTW, I've noticed that when I upload images to BPN they appear beached compared to the "original" image. I try to compensate when creating the file but only partial success. Anytips?

Boy, these guys really blend into the rocks. This looks like a difficult subject to get some clear facial definition due to the dark eyes and spotted faces. I think the harsh light also washes out some of the detail (maybe caused by the problem you referenced with uploading?). There's also a very visible sharpening halo along the top edge of the upper seal.

I like the composition and the juxtaposition of the seals. The focus appears to be on one of the seals towards the back. In images like this, the subject in front should de in sharp focus generally. You might try increasing contrast some to accentuate the seals from the rocks - higher on the seals and lower on the BG.

Check this thread out and see if this is the issue http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php?t=2472.

They really blend in well, and you managed to get three out of four looking at you :D

The seals use the rocks to there advantage they blend in so well. It would have been great if the third seal would have looked your way. I think your crop would have been better if it was just behing the flipper of the seal on the right... Fine effort for sure..

Some great tips. Thanks all. I checked back through the other shots and only found one with all the seals looking my way and it had other flaws. I was experimenting with LRMogrify for sharpening, obviously more experimentation to go as it didn't pass muster on this try.
