    Default Snow Geese

Another image I made at Middle Creek a few days ago. The wings are not all the way down but I liked the similar poses.

Axel, like it a lot. unique background adding a lot. It conveys that they are flying at low level. excellent whites and sharpness as usual. and yes, the similar poses is a nice thing too.

From the thumbnail I thought busy BG, but the image is actually very well composed
and the BG add a feel of depth here. I love the texture on their necks and eye contact on both birds.

Really like this one Axel. Exposure and sharpness are right on and the synchronized wing position works well.

Only thing I might have tried differently would be to clone out the bright snow in the lower left. For some reason it grabs my eye but the one on the far right doesn't.

    Axel:

    Nice symmetry, exposure, composition.

I find the dark band at the base of the bushes a bit distracting as it merges with the wings. The upper part of the background works well.

Just how it strikes me, but I think the majority of folks will like it.

Another great Goose shot. I like it that both have the same wing position. Great composition with a beautiful light.

Perfect symmetry captured here, and well done on the exposure too. Interesting BG - is it snow?

Thanks, Stuart! Yes, in the background is snow and ice.

You caught great symmetry with the bird's wing, and the background texture adds alot to the overall feel of the image. How appropriate...snow background, for Snow Geese :)

A couple of years ago, I had a Snow goose strut through my yard, here in Florida, with several Canada geese...almost gave me whip lash! I did get pictures to verify, and it was reported to Project Feeder Watch, as a rare bird find for our area. A very cool experience.

Very lovely capture and beautiful composition Axel. Particularly like the low angle and the forward wing thrust. Fine work !!

Axel, Great shot and I like the symmetry a lot. Just wondering - being a newbie and on a vertical learning curve - you have left more space below the geese than above. Is this the 'rule' that one follows when the wings are down in this position and following the rule of thirds? Is the opposite the same - if the wings were up one would leave more space above than below - still following the rule of thirds?

    Pam,

I went for this crop loosely following the 'rule of thirds'. If the wings were up, I would have put the bodies of the birds lower in the frame, just as you suggested. I usually make slight adjustments to this rule if the bird is either flying upward or downward.
