Default Tricolored Heron in Mating Plumage

This Tricolored Heron landed nearby and I was taken by the vividness of its mating colors and by its hairdo.

great exposure, clean bg, beautiful bird, and nice composition!! only thing is that it looks like there was some camera shake. the eye isnt as sharp. it's not much, but i would have gone to at least ISO 400 to get some more shutter speed.

is this one of the green cay birds?

Hi Milt - love the plumage and the BG really makes the bird pop.
Does look very soft on my screen - agree with MR H - appears to be from camera shake.
    Some additional sharpening may help.
    Looking forward to seeing more.

No, Harold. This is a Wakodahatchee resident.

Hi Milt, Good position within the frame and a nicely muted backround.Agree the image is very soft. You didn't state if you used a tripod or not...

This was shot hand held. After checking the camera, I realized that I had inadvertently switrched off the in-camera image stabilization.

Hi Milt, as noted too soft, use tripod or brace yourself. Is there an Servo type mode in Oly?

ISO 400 would have gained another stop of light =1/1000!

    Hi Jeff,
I believe the Olympus equivalent of the Canon servo mode is C-AF, continuous auto focus. I feel that the image I posted would have been sharp if I had not accidentally turned off the in-camera IS.

Milt - I saw that in the narrative above. OK - just keep the tripod handy and SS up when possible (and IS on):).
