You all know I love my tripod, but sometimes you have no choice and have to bite the bullet and hand hold.
Al and I were out with BPNers Richard W and Oscar Z, we were exploring Faxahatchee Strand in Big Cypress, absolutely beautiful place a little lacking in bird activity. At least, visible. While getting ready to make a turn into US 41 to get gas, this Hawk was sitting atop the street sign. WE all got out very slowly, my lens was camera mounted and in the back for comfort reasons, so while they took pics, I struggle to open the back door and couldn't, poor Richard had to stop taking pics and come and open it for me. I figured the beast was not going to stay put for much longer, so I cranked my ISO to 800 to double my s/s and went for the gold. I couldn't fit the whole body in my frame, so heads it was. This is like 80% of the frame.
It left a couple of minutes after my first frame.

    Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
    Lens (mm): 840
    ISO: 800
    Aperture: 5.6
    Shutter: 1/3200

Very nice Fabs! With results like this, maybe you'll take to hand holding that 600 more often! :D

Fabs, incredible job of hand-holding. ISO 800 must be very good on the new camera. I am liking the slight blur on the edges of the hawk. good call on wide-open.

Dont you think the image should be a little brighter? 1/3rd stop maybe? without lightening the brightest spots.

You are correct, I processed this on at night and noticed it dark when posting but was too lazy to fix it :) (not feeling my best health wise)

    Thanks!

Did you have an extra bowl of cereal that morning? :) I like the sharpness, look-down pose and composition. Another vote for a slightly lighter image.

Love the crop with this image and I'm totally impressed on the hand hold Fabs.

Agree that it could be a bit brighter and also I might have lightened the eye a bit?

    Hope you're feeling better :)

Yes, David, one pass of Noiseware Pro,

Thanks guys, I think the sky is mainly the culprit of the dark look. I shall revisit at daytime.
