I really like the pose, details and light but i would prefer a more uniform BG!

BG nits aside, you did well getting good side-light on this guy at sunset. The face is evenly lite and the details in the plumage accentuated nicely. I think I would try a selection onthe brighter parts of the bird on the rear of the body and legs and lower the luminance (levels adjustment ) or contrast (curves) to bring out more of the detail.

I like the composition and the drop of water on the bill is a nice touch. You left enough room for the virtual feet too.

    Hi,
I really like the light hitting the GBH in this image. Agree the bg is a little distracting.

Love the light and the sharpness. Face looks a bit oversharpened from here. I like the way you handled the REFL but wish for more room at the top. Suprised that nobody mentioned that last one...

Overall very nice. Don't you just hate that algae???

Thanks everyone. The algae BG got the best of this image, I suppose. I was really proud of the tripod 1/30 sec shutter speed but no one noticed that. I haven't used the 400 f/5.6 very much and the same morning I had a lot of images blurred with it handholding in cloudy conditions. Guess I am not as steady as before, :) (65 now). Hope before long I will get one that is a fine image. I keep taking them anyway. Have a great day everyone, and hope you get all keepers. :) :) :)

Bill, I think it is a beautiful image you've made here and would love to have made it! The bird, light, and reflection are especially pretty and well done. If you wanted to, that algae could be fairly easily removed, I think. Your bird photography has definitely moved up a level in the last few months, I've been watching! (-:
