Today I found this guy up in a tree nearby me. After blowing out the whites on the first couple tries, the -2EV seemed to solve that problem. So, I think the whites are OK, but the blacks are a little over (and I did not correct them). Does it make a difference here with the blacks? And do the whites show definition adequately?
i think if you had to go to -2EV that the light may have still been a little harsh? with that shutter speed, it's going to be hard to get any details in the whites and blacks at the same time. the whites dont look too bad, but the scene does look contrasty and the blues oversaturated.
i think only a lower sun would have helped here, wendell. you did as well as you could in that condition!
Hi wendell - Harold has nailed it!!! Good one Mr H.
Harsh light with these guys is next to impossible. Whites look a little bright on my screen but probably not over - also lacking detail as Harold mentioned.
Hi Wendell Just trust the monitor and go with it !!! If your sensor is not picking much white it will open up so you will need lots of neg comp !!! Usually not as much as minus two !!
Always like seeing a less steep angle and would tone down the blues .. as presented can darken the beak and pupil !!!
Hi Wendall, Agree with all 3 comments stated. I would also add a bit more room to the right. White birds need either early or late(golden) light to really bring out the detail in their feathers. You did the best you could under the circumstances...
Nice one, whites might be in check but could use some possible S&H or curves adjustment to bring out detail. Given no DoF issues, I might open up and use sweeter part of the lens. Not to worry about darks, whites are the money shot here.
Softer light might be the answer here. Like the vert image and composition just needs a tad more on the right. TFS, this is a nice image and hard to expose - you did well.
