    Default Midway #7/Headed Home Tonight...

    Attached Images Attached Images

It has been an amazing two weeks for me. You can see lots more Midway images and learn some great stuff from the last few blog posts at www.BIRDSASART-Blog.com.

These displaying Laysan Albatrosses were photographed with the Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens, the 1.4X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 400: 1/1000 sec. at f/8 confirmed via a histogram check.

The younger birds, thousand and thousand if not tens of thousands of them, are constantly displaying. Coming up with a relatively clean background is nearly impossible. I removed a white building from the far shoreline to the right of the righthand bird.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

Artie, I liked the symmetry and the placement of the birds in the frame. Two good heand angles. shooting angle and exposure perfect as usual. That water is really really colorful. Thx for sharing.

Artie, in this image you can almost feel the chi between these two albatrosses! Thanks so much for sharing this one and the whole Midway sequence. I feel like I was there at least a little bit. Safe trip home.

    Artie:

Nice techs, but what strikes me the most is the perfect placement of the top of the tree line on the birds body. If that line had cut through higher on the neck, it would not have worked nearly as well for me.

    Safe travels.

Atrie, Great shot. It feels as if I was just there, gosh, I was. I discussed the extended chests with Lillian and she thought they might be from the plastic retention in the crop. We saw a lot of the Laysan's with larger appearing chests and thought the plastic might be the reason.. Your comments and thoughts?
Rest well the red eye flight back to Hawaii.
    Regards,
    Steve

Pity about the missing feet. They would have been the icing on the cake.;)

Perfect display pose and HA. Layered BG adds nicely to the image, especially position of tree line as Randy also noted.

Artie, this is just wonderful. I love the soft light and the symmetry. Wonderful pose. I love your shots from this place, especially the albatrosses. It's a shame for humanity that almost all albatross species are now threatened because of human greed and stupidity!

I'm not sure if I am saying this right, first thing, I like about the image is the symmetry of the total image, vertical and horizontal planes...very pleasing image..I've seen this behavior on video, must be something to see it in real life..

The behaviour captured is wonderful natural history, and I like the symmetry and layered background.

Like the position of the two birds and the low angle. Nice color as well.

Very beautiful interaction, it almost looks as if they have been trained to do this! you have caught the interactions in these series very well.
