This guy was finding a lot to eat. The shoreline nearby was densely littered with empty shells.

    Canon 7d
    Canon 500 f/4 with 1.4x extender
    ISO 400
    1/500 f/8
Cropped to about half the original dimensions
    Processed in Lightroom

    Comments welcome.

Hi Bill Looks good, got the Willet with a meal and great head angle.
Remember to get in sun angle to eliminate shadows and having the bird lit up. Exposure looks good and don't think you could have given more light but the back of neck and front of head are a little dark. Can lighten slightly.

With LR you can use the masking tool and mast those areas then lighten a bit !! Quick and easy !!!

Hi Bill, Nice capture with the bonus of a meal. Agree with Al's comments and for my taste would crop a small bit off the top...

Hi Alfred, Thanks! Nice to be back! Always enjoy shooting with Roman and Ben. Roman is relentless and resourceful which makes for many opportunities. We had a great trip with only 1 1/2 days of bad weather. It even started warming up after the first 3 days we were there.

Very nice looking Shorebird. Would love to see this as a repost with Alfred's suggestions.

Hi Bill! Really like the texture in the water with the reflection as well. Nice detail in the bird! I agree with cropping just a bit off the top and lightening head as Al suggested

I would like to see more canvas on all sides where bird represents about 25% of frame and move him back some (1/3's). Nice picture - TFS.

Nice technique with all that FL >700MM with crop factor.

Here's a repost with the neck area lightened a bit in PS. I used the dodge tool first, then masked the dark area and applied curves to raise contrast just a bit. Also recropped slightly.

Thanks again for all the comments,

    Bill
