What a cool photograph. The beauty of flight over that BG is fantastic. IMO a nice merger of art and Avian photography - well done:).

Love it Jackie - great feel and the implied motion is cool.

    Hi Jackie

It has a strange feel with all that motion in the bird and bg not as blurred !!! Love using birds coming at me for those ultra slow shutter speeds !!! Good luck with the others !!

i'm surprised the bird is as sharp or not as blurred without the panning! agree that it would be better with a blurred bg.

i was messing around with this stuff saturday nite. fun and challenging, but just not many keepers!! i found myself wishing i was getting the real action at the proper ss most of the time!!!!!:)

Thanks for the comments. This is tough to do Harold. I still plan to practice, practice, practice. Think I will try 1/15 and up to 1/60th. My keeper rate is really low. Should take up skeet shooting:)

Hi Jackie....nice image! I was wondering is there an advantage to using the flash and better beamer with the slow shutter speeds?

Well Bob, from what I know with slow shutter speed you get more of the blended ambient light mixed in to make the image look more natural and second curtain just gives you a ghost image behind the subject, first curtain give you the ghose image in front of the subject. First curtain is when the shutter first opens and second is just when the shutter closes. This is my understanding and I am sure lots of techies out there will tell me I am wrong or explain it better than I have. Clear as mud now :) :D ?

Yes, flash (rear-sync recommended ) has the added advantage of freezing the bird, while the ambient adds the blur. The combined effect can produce beautiful results. However, the lower the shutter speed the more unpredictable the end result.

    Best,

    Chas
