    Hi Folks

This Orange Crowned Warbler was captured ready to leave our Arizona Ash after a peck or two of suet.

I converted it to a painting using free Fotosketcher with a smooth texture BG instead of my usual strong texture.

    CC’s warmly invited

Here is the original . . . When redoing the BG, I like to go to File>New, same measurements as original with BG Color a medium blue. When it appears, I use color picker and make FG a little shade lighter than medium blue. Then I go to Filter>>Render>Clouds. Then I press V (Move) and holding down Shift (For complete accurate placement} and move original over new BG. As bird outline was not very definite for using BG Eraser & the eraser for cleaning up around bird. I went to Image>Brightness/Contrast and pulled both sliders fully to right. Brightness 150, Contrast 100. Sample below. When finished with erasing etc reverse Brightness/Contrast settings

Gus, I like the painterly effect applied. You did an amazing job w/ the BG and the framing. I might tone down the perch a tiny tiny bit. Very nicely done.:)

Gus, It looks like a very subtle difference. It's hard to see a difference on the perch but the BG looks a bit toned down.

Gus, neat image...I'd lighten the bird a bit AND tone down the perch. I'm really finding my eye being drawn to that tree and we don't want to miss that beautiful bird!

    Hi denise:

I might tone down the perch a tiny tiny bit.

Side by side you can see the tiny tone down on perch ????????

Although my eyes are still under question and I do have a Eye-One display 2 calibrated monitor

It is also the artist's concept of a painting? Toning the perch down in the photo was easy, but then the painter added to it . . . Maybe I should give him 20 lashes . . . is that enough

BTW: As a point of interest, holding down Window key and pressing left arrow puts that graphic on the left half of the screen, doing other with the right arrow puts it in the right half for easy comparison or working on one while looking at both for editing

Gus, My eyes MUST be going buggy-because I think the original perch is more toned down:eek: Let's see what others say.

Love this smoother texture background Gus, it suits the subject. And I think you're right denise, the original perch does seem toned down. Also the warbler looks a little bit lighter and brighter:)

    Hi Folks

Thought it might be my eyes. However, I sent this questionaire to quite a few photographers I know asking which one is darker, and so far they agree with me "I would say the right/original one".

So far, 3 of you have said the Redo is darker????????

It's so obvious to me that the redo perch looks lighter I can hardly believe my eyes can be that bad :D

    NBD::o As it is a painting . . . ?????

    Still smiling

    Best regards

    Uncle Gus
