On the cape verde islands i saw this group of sanderlings sitting together. I crawled to them and took this picture. I'm curious to your guys critiques. Canon 30d with canon 300mm f4.

    Hi Thijs,

I like the concept and find this to be an Interesting image showing environment. The exposure looks good to me and the depth of field isolates the bird to helps me focus on them. Compositionally if this were mine (personal taste not necessarily correct) I would try a different crop to place the emphasizes on the two birds near the center of the frame because I can clearly see their eyes. I would crop to just in front of the trailing two birds that are obscured by the vegetation. I would also crop from the top to remove the dark strip at the top and some of the out-focus area off bottom. If you try this watch the image quality. To demonstrate my wordy suggestion, I have attached an example. Again this is just a suggestion based on my personal preferences. Thanks for sharing.

I like the setting, light and exposure control. Phil's crop idea looks good to me, a slightly higher angle would have helped to separate birds and foreground.
