    Default Another Spoonie

    OK, here's my contribution to the recent spoonie shots. Taken at Little Estero lagoon, Ft Myers Fl. It was a joy to watch them sift through the water with their bill, and to see the eye above the water line.

    Hello,

    I like the low angle. The head in the water doesn't add any interest to the image. You did well with the exposure and your image is very sharp.

    Was this recent??

    Excellent exposure control and classic pose. Very well done.

    Maxis;

    This was Feb 14th. Will get back out this week sometime.
    its such a beautiful bird, and although the I like the dynamism of the bird feeding and head in the water, it does lose the birds trademark, the bill. I was trying for something a little different to the regualr portrait, but have to agree with you on this one.

    Thanks for the comment.

    I hate to be the odd man out. But to me the fact it is different is a plus. Perhaps more of the head out of the water would make it more palatable for some. But you got some nice plumage and decent comp and exposure. I have never made a image of these or even seen them, so my opinion may not carry much weight. But I can remedy that with Mr. Shadle and Company next year. I am coming to see you James. Take care. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi,
    That's the way they feed with their spoon-type bills constantly turning from side to side stirring up things. So, to get the eye a good deal above the water level was very good. I like the little water circle created by that action. Well done on the color and exposure too.

    Default Personally The Head Makes This Shot

    I've seen zillions of spoonbills with their heads up....not so many of them feeding...which they of course have to do daily :)
